Spring! Spring! Spring!

The other day, as some of you will know, was the first day of Spring, 2011. We had a lovely early morning walk around the garden, collecting flowers for breakfast. It was so refreshing to find the garden full of greeness and flower buds. After some considerstion, i have decided to agree with Anne (from the series Anne of Green Gables, the book Anne of Avonlea, by L.M Montgomery): ‘[one spring day]…I was just on my way to invite you to help me celebrate my birthday on Saturday,” said Anne.

“Your birthday? But your birthday was in March!” [said Dianna]

“That wasn’t my fault,” laughed Anne. “If my parents had consulted me it would never had been then. I should have chosen to be born in the spring, of corse…But since i didn’t, the next best thing is to celebrate it in the spring…”

Well, this is one of the poems that we read on spring day, and I thought that some of you might want to hear it to:

We Thank Thee
By: Ralph Waldo Emerson

For flowers that bloom about our feet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For tender grass so fresh, so sweet,
Father, we thank Thee.
For the song of bird and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

For blue of stream and blue of sky,
Father, we thank Thee.
For pleasant shade of branches high,
Father, we thank Thee.
For fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For beauty of the blooming trees,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.

For this new morning with its light,
Father, we thank Thee.
For rest and shelter of the night,
Father, we thank Thee
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee.
